Progesterone thresholds are specific to the assay that produced them; values from a different analyzer or laboratory are not directly interchangeable — see why your analyzer’s chart doesn’t match the textbook.
A whole-blood run has no separation step, but it is time-critical — set everything up before you draw the sample.
  1. Set up first
Insert the kit ID chip for this lot into the analyzer, open a buffer vial and have a pipette tip fitted. Whole blood begins to clot immediately, so nothing should be left to do after the draw.
  2. Draw the sample
Collect canine whole blood into one of the included lithium-heparin micro-centrifuge tubes.
  3. Start within one minute
Transfer the sample volume called for in the package insert into the buffer vial, cap it and mix. This is the step that must happen inside roughly one minute of collection.
  4. Run the test
Load the prepared mixture onto the test strip and insert it into the analyzer. A quantitative result appears in about 15 minutes.
  5. Read it in context
Whole-blood kits do not ship with a printed chart. Cross-reference your first few results against serum values to build a reference range on your own analyzer — our guide on analyzer-specific thresholds explains how.
The package insert is the authority
Every kit ships with a package insert giving the exact volumes, timings and handling steps for that lot. Where it differs from this summary, follow the insert. Finecare technical support is included with your purchase if anything is unclear.

Requires an analyzer

These are test cartridges for a Finecare Vet analyzer. They cannot be read by eye or used on their own. If you do not already own the instrument, see analyzers — and check what else the workflow needs before ordering.

Canine whole-blood progesterone testing with none of the extra steps — no centrifuge, no serum preparation. Collect the sample and test immediately for reliable results in minutes on your Finecare Vet or Pro-DX.
Test within one minute of the draw
Whole blood clots naturally, so testing must begin within about a minute of collection to keep the result accurate. Have the buffer vial open and the pipette ready before you draw.

Why breeders choose it

Test directly from canine whole blood. Collect the sample and run it on the spot — ideal for busy or mobile programs.
Results in minutes
On-site progesterone on your Finecare Vet or Pro-DX, without waiting on a send-out laboratory.
About $10 per test
Ten tests per kit at this price — in-house testing for a fraction of external-lab cost, with quick results.
Tubes included
Now ships with lithium-heparin micro-centrifuge tubes for easier, more consistent results and half the prep time.
Room-temp, 1-year shelf life
Store at room temperature and stock up with confidence — kits carry a one-year expiration.
Vet & Pro-DX compatible
Runs on both the Finecare Vet and the newer Finecare PetLife Pro-DX analyzers.
Good to know: whole blood vs. serum
Whole-blood progesterone does not ship with a separate reading chart. Many breeders cross-reference their first few whole-blood results against serum values to establish a personal reference range on their own analyzer — because thresholds belong to the assay that produced them. Our guide on why one analyzer’s chart doesn’t match another’s explains how to do this.
