Progesterone thresholds are specific to the assay that produced them; values from a different analyzer or laboratory are not directly interchangeable — see why your analyzer’s chart doesn’t match the textbook.
A serum or plasma run adds one step over whole blood — the sample is spun first — and in exchange it is far less time-critical.
  1. Draw the sample
Collect canine whole blood into one of the included lithium-heparin microtubes, or into a serum tube.
  2. Separate it
Spin the tube in a micro-centrifuge to separate serum or plasma from the cells. The lithium-heparin tubes are what keep jelly-like serum from causing trouble here.
  3. Load the lot data
Insert the kit ID chip supplied with this lot into the analyzer. There is no calibration step — repeat this whenever you open a new lot.
  4. Prepare the test
Pipette the sample volume called for in the package insert into a buffer vial, cap and mix, then transfer the mixture onto the test strip.
  5. Run it
Insert the strip and start the test. A quantitative result appears in about 15 minutes.
  6. Read it in context
Compare the value against the full-color chart included with your order — and against your own analyzer’s history, since thresholds belong to the assay that produced them.
The package insert is the authority
Every kit ships with a package insert giving the exact volumes, timings and handling steps for that lot. Where it differs from this summary, follow the insert. Finecare technical support is included with your purchase if anything is unclear.

Requires an analyzer

These are test cartridges for a Finecare Vet analyzer. They cannot be read by eye or used on their own. If you do not already own the instrument, see analyzers — and check what else the workflow needs before ordering.

Quantitative canine progesterone from serum or plasma on your Finecare Vet or Pro-DX — results in about 15 minutes, in-house, for roughly $9 a test. This is the original Finecare Vet kit, and the one that ships with a full-color reading chart.

Why breeders choose it

About $9 per test
Ten tests per kit — in-house testing for a fraction of send-out lab cost, without repeated clinic visits.
Results in about 15 minutes
Test on your own schedule and act on the number the same morning, instead of waiting on a laboratory.
Reading chart included
Every order ships with a full-color Finecare timing chart, so the result comes with context for the breeding decision.
Handles jelly-like serum
Free lithium-heparin microtubes are now included for cleaner separation and more consistent results.
Room-temp, 2-year shelf life
No refrigeration required, so you can stock up ahead of the season with confidence.
Vet & Pro-DX compatible
The same kit runs on the Finecare Vet and the newer Finecare PetLife Pro-DX — no need to re-stock if you upgrade.
Serum or plasma — spin before you test
This kit runs on separated serum or plasma, so the sample is spun in a centrifuge first. The included lithium-heparin microtubes make that step faster and cleaner. If you would rather skip the centrifuge entirely, see the whole-blood kit below.
